Record Store Day 2009 at Criminal Records, Altanta

"Greetings From Atlanta: No Place Like It" postcard
I found this in Criminal Records a few weeks ago when I went up to Atlanta with my friend Sayed. This postcard is designed by Atlanta artist R.Land. I love the sarcasm.

All the Saints
I've been listening to Atlanta's All the Saints lately. The are originally for Jasper, Alabama but moved to Atlanta. They have a heavy, thick rock and psychedelic sound similar to Spacemen 3 but different in it own right. Get a free mp3 from their debut album, Fire On Corridor X from RCRDLBL.com. The videos came form indieATL.
Broken Social Scene/Land of Talk in Atlanta
After several years of listening to their music and missing a show in Birmingham, Ala. a few years ago, I finally got a chance to see Broken Social Scene. I took some unused vacation days off and decided to see them on Wednesday, November 19 at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta. It was my first time seeing a show at this venue. I got there about 30 minutes early and waited around for the opening band to begin. Land of Talk from Montreal came out on stage with only about 50 or so people crammed at the stage. They played a song, introduced themselves. A girl in the crowd was yelling out that the venue was cold. The bass player said that they are from Canada so it was the perfect temperature. Another girl yelled out if this was like summer to them. So Land of Talk sounds kinda like a more softer, mainstream early Sonic Youth crossed with the Cranberries. I had only heard two mp3s that I downloaded from www.rcrdlbl.com and was not that into those songs. I like them now after seeing them live.
They got through with their set. I walked to the lobby to see if I could get a photo with the lead singer and buy a cd and get an autograph at the band's merch booth. But I didnt have time since Lizzie Powell had to leave quickly to get ready to sing Fiest's parts in some of Broken Social Scene's songs. I got back to my spot which was on the left side of the stage with only one person ahead of me and the stage. Very nice. So Kevin Drew of Broken Social Scene walked out first and starts clapping. Then the rest of the members come out. I look back behind me and the 50 people quadrupled and the whole venue was slam full. The show sold out. Andrew Whiteman from Apostle of Hustle backed them of on rhythm guitar and another guy named Sam. I have no idea who Sam is and which band he was from but he looks like a more disheveled, slacker version of Justin Long from Apple commercials and Zach and Miri. The band played one of his songs that he wrote. Most every song they played a few minutes of random jam notes then started on the official opening notes of the songs. They had so much energy and ferocity in every song. They played "Fire Eye'd Boy", "Supperconnected", "7/4 Shoreline". Lizzie Powell sang very, very well on the female vocal parts of their songs. She was so excited and had a whole lot of fun singing with BSS. They ended the official set with a very long "Its All Gonna Break". They thanked the crowd and left the stage. After a few minutes of chanting, the band comes back for two encore songs. After that Kevin Drew gets on the keyboard and sings an accopello version of "Lover's Spit". He is about 4 feet from me at this point. The show was amazing and well worth the money and travel.
