Record Store Day 2009 at Criminal Records, Altanta

So once again it was Record Store Day nationwide. I visited Criminal Records in Atlanta to celebrate the day with live music every hour, free cake, free cds and cd/record specials with Sayed (@guyeatsoctopus). I met up with recent twitter friend and recent Atlanta resident Edward (@85lives). He is one of coolest dudes in the ATL. It was a great day. I spent a little too much on a few records and cds.

Carolina Chocolate Drops-atl bluegrass

(First 2 pics below)
Mike Farris & the Roseland Rhythm Revue-a great Nashville soul, gospel, blues, high energy groove band

(Next 3 pics below)
Noot d' Noot-high energy funk, groove, soul band, similar to the Bellrays but louder and more brass. Self described as mix of Agnostic Front's Cause For Alarm album and African Scream Contest. Very good and fun to see live.

The Totally Michael/Ninjasonik/Cerebral Ballzy/Team Robespierre/The Death Set show

So I two friends invited me to go see the show at the Bottletree in Birmingham, Ala. on March 16th. The show was on a Monday night and I have to work at 8 am Tuesday so I was debating it. So I said what the hey and Sayed drove us up to Birmingham about an hour and half away. Got back home around 3 or 3:30 am and up in few hours to make it to work by 8.

This was your first time at this venue so we didn't know what to expect. It was a pretty cool club. the bathroom walls were covered with crazy and funny vinyl album covers. The venue was fairly small and intimate so you get to know others. They had board games for those that wanted to play before shows and a small photography show displayed on the wall. Bad thing was that it was away from downtown and 5 Points so there were not business near it to kill time or grab a bite before the show.

I have seen Totally Michael once before when he toured with MC Chris a few months ago and I have heard of Ninjasonik but haven't heard of the other bands. This was all dance punk music except for Cerebral Ballzy. They were just straight up NYC skateboard hardcore. Not real great that night mostly since the singer was wasted but I've heard this type several years ago and it's nothing original. They were cool people though. Totally Michael was awesome yet again. He plays hyped up indie dance pop. Ninjasonik killed it. They are a party/indie hip-hop band from Brooklyn. I haven't seen anything like it. They just smashed the stage with their hyped energy. Some of the Cerebral Ballzy crew got on stage to sing with the band on a few songs. They also played a remix of Tight Pants remixed with Negative Thinking from touring mates The Death Set. Team Robespierre and then next The Death Set set up their gear out on the floor and rocked it. Team Robespierre was ok. The Death Set were amazing. The drummer was pounding out the beat. Very entertaining band. It was a good night. We got to meat and hangout with Totally Michael for little bit. Jimmie got to interview him on camera because he's in the process of starting a local TV show and wanted to use the interview in the show. Totally Michael is a really cool guy. Got to meet Ninjasonik too. They are some of the coolest and funniest folks around. Very down to earth. I managed to record a few songs from Ninjasonik and Totally Michael but couldnt of the last two since they were on the floor and blocked by all the fans.
